Suffolk County Police arrested a woman early this morning for DWI after she drove her vehicle into oncoming traffic in Commack.

Fourth Precinct officers responded to a 911 report of a Ford Expedition being driven eastbound in the westbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike at 12:50 a.m. An officer in a marked police car located the Ford and drove up behind it with lights and siren activated, but the driver did not stop the vehicle.

The officer then passed the Ford and positioned his vehicle in front of it. The officer gradually slowed down his vehicle until it came to a stop with the Ford stopping behind it. The officer observed that the driver of the Ford, Susan Charan, was intoxicated.

Charan, 51, of 43 Garden Blvd., Hicksville, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. She was also issued multiple summonses for traffic violations. The Ford was impounded.

Charan is being held at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned later today at First District Court in Central Islip.
