Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine and Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina will join The Theodore Roosevelt Association and Friends of Sagamore Hill honoring Detective Timothy Thrane during the 31st Annual Theodore Roosevelt Police Awards on June 12 at 11 a.m.
Then-Officer Thrane was on foot, directing traffic at the scene of a motor vehicle crash in Yaphank on November 2, 2021, when a drunk driver struck a vehicle that was stopped at the scene, causing it to strike Thrane, throwing him under the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and spent nearly a month in a coma. He returned to work less than a year later and still requires therapy to this day.
The Theodore Roosevelt Association’s Theodore Roosevelt Police Award is given annually to officers nationwide who have overcome a major physical challenge or handicap as Theodore Roosevelt did.
