AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties... Richmond...Kings...Queens...New York...Bronx...Westchester... Rockland...Nassau...and Suffolk. from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value...the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young...and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. NCPD report the DWI arrest of Jessica Coleman of Miller Place, 22, after causing a serious accident in Freeport on Sunday, 6/11.

Freeport, NY - June 12, 2017 - Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a serious auto accident that occurred in Freeport on Sunday, 06/11/17 at 8:50 P.M.
 
According to detectives, Jessica Coleman, 22, of Miller Place, was operating a 2005 Jeep Liberty eastbound on Merrick Rd., when she drove off the roadway and hit a utility pole in front of 200 Merrick Rd.  Her female passenger, 22, who was unrestrained in the rear seat during the collision, was thrown into the rear cargo area. Freeport police responded to the scene and determined the defendant to be intoxicated.
 
The female passenger, who sustained a severe head injury, was transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in serious condition. Defendant Coleman sustained minor abrasions.
 
Coleman is being charged with DWI, Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree and will be arraigned on Monday, 06/12/17 in First District Court, Hempstead.
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
