Rockville Centre Woman Arrested Under Leandra's Law

Nassau County, NY - July 9 2015 - On Wednesday, July 8th a trooper from the Brentwood barracks charged a Rockville Center woman with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs under Leandra's Law.

At approximately 4:20 P.M. the New York State Police received a report of a vehicle being operated erratically eastbound on the Northern State Parkway in the vicinity of Wolf Hill Rd.  The vehicle then exited the Northern State Parkway at Wolf Hill Rd. and came to a stop on the ramp.  An off-duty New York City police officer who observed the vehicle on the Northern State Parkway was able to detain the operator until the arrival of the State Police.  Upon arrival, troopers interviewed the operator of the vehicle who was identified as Lucitania Espinal, age 33 of Rockville Center, New York.  Subsequent investigation revealed Ms. Espinal to be impaired by drugs and she was placed under arrest.  Traveling with Ms. Espinal was a 9 year old child who was subsequently turned over to a family member.

Ms. Espinal was charged with Felony Driving by Ability Impaired by Drugs, Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.  Ms. Espinal will be arraigned in Suffolk County First District Court on July 9th.
