If you can’t get out for birdwatching, let the birdwatching come to you. PSEG Long Island has installed a live webcam in Patchogue to keep tabs on a nesting osprey.
Enjoy the osprey in the video feed below:
The nest is located near the Blue Point Brewery. According to a post accompanying the video on the PSEG Long Island YouTube page, the company has installed a webcam to offer a sneak peek into the lives of the local osprey.
“Employees work throughout the year to balance PSEG Long Island’s commitment to deliver consistent, safe delivery of power for its customers with its commitment to being a good environmental steward,” the post reads. “Providing a safe nesting area for the osprey away from vital electrical infrastructure helps maintain strong electric service reliability.”
The company said that with the “guidance and support from environmental partners, [PSEG Long Island] have identified best practices for when to move a nest, and when to create alternative safer nest locations for the ospreys."
"Workers have safely relocated two dozen osprey nests in order to ensure the birds are out of harm’s way from high voltage systems, and taken actions to make nests safe in place at an additional eight locations,” the company said.
