Bathtub Doctor, a Bethpage-based home and commercial bathroom cleaning and restoration company with 34 years of experience, is offering a new subscription-based home maintenance service for customers as a way of heading off any potential issues in their dwelling BEFORE they happen instead of being forced to deal with expensive repair bills afterwards.

Owner Orlando Salazar opened Bathtub Doctor’s doors for business back in 1986, and has been wowing clients ever since by expediently transforming their bathrooms into clean, immaculate spaces while remaining extremely affordable at the same time.

“I help homeowners quickly make their bathrooms nice and clean, typically within 24 hours, and I do it without having to rip everything out,” he said. “In a nutshell, I make a bathroom look pretty without a big time or financial investment.”

Among the services that Mr. Salazar offers to that end are refinishing, reglazing, resurfacing, tile replacement, and more. The result is a bathroom that looks and feels like new at a fraction of a price. This runs in contrast to full bathroom replacements which can run into tens of thousands of dollars, and given the current economic issues many people are facing in light of the ongoing conronavirus pandemic, saving every dollar you can counts for a great deal.

In addition, ten years ago Bathtub Doctor also began including full home improvement services due to customer demand. Mr. Salazar said that he found that people would often call him after a problem had already occurred, thinking more reactively as opposed to proactively, and being able to provide a fast and direct avenue for repair and renovation saves his customers both time and money.

However, Mr. Salazar and Bathtub Doctor are now announcing a new service to Long Islanders- a home maintenance subscription service dubbed the “House Doctor HI Club.”

Achieving the true “American Dream” is often considered to be home ownership, but the excitement and pride that comes with it is often diminished when something unexpectedly breaks and you have to foot the bill to have it fixed.

Most experts suggest that homeowners should spend approximately one percent of the purchase price of their home on routine yearly maintenance; for example, $2,000 should be spent on the annual upkeep of a home that costs $200,000. Sadly, many people neglect this vital aspect of home ownership and when something eventually goes awry – often unexpectedly and never at a good time – they end up paying through the nose to have it set right.

However, House Doctor HI Club will only set back Long Island homeowners an average of $49 per month for routine inspections that can help to circumvent major repairs and provide peace of mind as well.

"As homeowners, we kind of just cross our fingers and hope for the best," Mr. Salazar said. “But by providing the House Doctor HI Club service, we are trying to eliminate that guessing game."

Billed monthly, Mr. Salazar compares House Doctor HI Club to other subscription services, such as Netflix. Fees start at just under $360 a year for the basic plan, which aims to provide a way for people to stay on top of home maintenance in a simple, headache-free way that will help to avoid issues that can grow into larger problems – and higher costs – if not taken care of properly and in a timely manner.

Starting at four times annually – or as often as needed for an additional fee – the highly-trained and knowledgeable House Doctor HI Club team will check a home for mechanical and structural issues and will perform standard maintenance work, including checking the heating and air units, changing out air filters, checking for water infiltration, replacing light bulbs, and more.

The idea behind the four annual visits is to gauge how the homeowner’s residence is holding up throughout all four seasons of the year. After all, Mr. Salazar said, a home is a lot like a story with different chapters.

"What does your house do in the winter, summer, spring and fall? There are different stories for each. Your house might not be affected by something in the winter that will cause a problem in the summer, and vice versa,” he said. “Routine maintenance is so simple to do, yet it can lead to a major issue down the road if you neglect it. After all, as a house ages, everything begins to wear down. Regular maintenance keeps things working longer, better, and we want to provide that.”

An initial inspection can take anywhere from four to five hours on average. If an inspection reveals that repairs are indeed needed, House Doctor HI Club is able to affect them; however, if something strays from their area of expertise, Mr. Salazar said that his company is able to get quotes from different repair companies, set up any appointments, and will supervise all work done. This ensures that a customer can trust that they are always getting the right work done for the right price, each and every time.

When it comes to the longevity of their residences, Mr. Salazar noted, the thing homeowners in Long Island homeowners need to be more mindful of is moisture intrusion.

"Long Island is subject to all of nature’s extreme temperatures, ranging from lows below freezing in the winter to blistering 100-degree heat in the summer. That can lead to a lot of mildew growth and wood rot problems," he explained. "When it’s humid and hot in summer, anything on the exterior of a home – such as siding, gutters, windows, and roofing – will wear out faster, causing air and water leaks that can potentially cause real headaches later. It's very important to keep vigilant."

For an extra fee, homeowners can have the House Doctor HI Club team assemble and install furniture, help with water remediation and flooding, set up smart home devices, engage in gutter cleaning, and more. Mr. Salazar also indicated that he wants to open his company’s services up to real estate agents who may need a go-to inspector or repair company when buyers or sellers need quick repairs.

For Mr. Salazar, the concept behind both Bathtub Doctor and House Doctor HI Club comes down to taking care of the single largest investment that most people will ever make- their home, and everything in it.

"We want to make things streamlined and smooth, so you can just focus on living and enjoying life with your family," he said. "We would like to be able to remove this source of stress from your life and provide you with the peace of mind that comes with knowing that your home’s maintenance is in good hands.”

Mr. Salazar, a Chilean immigrant, followed in his father’s footsteps and as a carpenter and all-around handyman. His father built his own house, and worked repairing and maintaining residential properties for over 30 years before coming to the United States.  Mr. Salazar inherited that talent and dedication to hard work from his father, and has been serving Long Islanders in the home improvement business for over 30 years.
