Man Arrested for DWI After Crash Seriously Injures Bicyclist, Victim Suffers Bone Fractures

Suffolk County Police arrested a Brightwaters man for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a bicyclist last night.

Bridgewater, NY - May 1, 2016 - Suffolk County Police arrested a Brightwaters man for driving while intoxicated after he was involved in a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a bicyclist last night.

Thomas Sitone, 43 was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck westbound on the Sunrise Highway North Service Road when he struck Clemencia Mennella, 54, who was riding a bicycle northbound on Manor Lane.

Mannella was transported by West Islip Rescue to Southside Hospital where she was listed in serious condition with multiple bone fractures.

Sitone, of Brightwaters, was charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning at First District Court in Central Islip.

Sitone’s vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
