Holtsville, NY - April 30th, 2013 - The Suffolk County SPCA is asking for information about circumstances surrounding the dumping of a wounded opossum in the Holtsville area.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said that the agency received a call from a resident on Blossom Avenue that the animal was found alive in a garbage pail and when the resident took the opossum to a local veterinarian it was found that the animal had been shot in the face with a pellet gun.

"This is a blatant act of animal cruelty and we will do everything we can to see that those responsible are apprehended," Gross said.

Anyone with information can contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722.  All calls will be kept confidential.
