Elderly Couple Killed in East Patchogue House Fire

East Patchogue, NY - April 8th, 2016 -  Suffolk County Police Homicide Section and Arson Section detectives are investigating a fire that killed an elderly couple this afternoon.

Fifth Precinct Police officers responded to a call of a house fire at 50 Swezey St., East Patchogue at 12:36 p.m. Neighbors observed flames emanating from the home and attempted to enter the residence to rescue an elderly couple but were unsuccessful.

Patchogue Fire Department, North Patchogue Fire Department, Bayport Fire Department, Blue Point Fire Department, Bellport Fire Department, Hagerman Fire Department, Farmingville Fire Department, Medford Fire Department, South Country Ambulance, Sayville Ambulance, Holbrook Ambulance and Holtsville Ambulance responded.

Upon entry, Angeline Romeo, 85, and her husband, Alfred Romeo, 88, were found deceased on the first floor of the home.

A preliminary investigation has determined the cause of the fire does not appear to be criminal in nature. The investigation is continuing.
