All 18 of team upperclassmen attained a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 through the 1st quarter of the school year.
Northport, NY - April 7, 2017 - Each year, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association High School National Academic Squad recognizes junior and senior players from across the United States who have attained a minimum cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 through the 1st quarter of the school year. This year, through their hard work and dedication to their academics while participating on the Varsity Northport High School Girls Field Hockey Team, all 18 of the upperclassmen on the team successfully reached this achievement.
Legislator Spencer was delighted to join with Legislator Trotta to present the young athletes and their Coach Gina Walling with proclamations at the March 28th General Meeting of the Legislature in recognition this accomplishment. These students are among 2,522 athletes from 328 schools to earn this prestigious honor in 2016-2017.
“I am so proud to be able to showcase the successes of the team but also the diligence and care each student has put into their studies, “said Legislator William Spencer. “They bring great pride to their families, school and the entire Northport community!”
“This honor speaks volumes about the mission of Northport High School and the school district for our athletes to be valued as students first,” said Coach Gina Walling. “These girls are the true definition of student-athletes. While maintaining their incredible academic marks, they also finished 2nd in Suffolk Division 1 and 4th in Suffolk Class A for the second consecutive year.”
