LaLota Announces Over One Million in Additional Federal Research Grants for Stony Brook

Today, Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01) announced additional research grants at Stony Brook University. Through these grants, Stony Brook will receive $1,147,539 in federal funding.

“I am thrilled to see even more federal dollars come home to Suffolk County,” said LaLota. “The research being conducted at Stony Brook is groundbreaking and should lead to even more federal funding. I applaud the work being done by faculty and students at Stony Brook and look forward to seeing the results of their research.”

Background:

LaLota previously announced a grant of $255,304 from the Department of Commerce for Stony Brook, bringing the total grant funding to date to $1,402,843.

Stony Brook’s grants were issued by the National Science Foundation. The research programs funded are titled as follows:

  • Uniformization and Rigidity in Metric Surfaces and in the Complex Plane, $239,774
  • Holomorphic Dynamics and Related Themes, $369,435
  • Uniformization of Surfaces and Mapping Problems in Metric Spaces, $148,072

Stony Brook also received a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for the University’s research in the fields of pharmacology, physiology, and biological chemistry. This grant would be $390,258.
