Copiague Man Arrested for Multiple Burglaries Throughout Suffolk, Officials Report

SCPD have arrested John Batista of Copiague, 44, who committed a robbery and a string of burglaries.

Suffolk County, NY - April 3, 2018 - Suffolk County Police have arrested a man who committed a robbery and a string of burglaries in Suffolk County since December of 2017.

A man committed an armed robbery and a series of burglaries in the First Precinct area from December 11, 2017 through March 29, 2018. After an investigation, First Squad detectives arrested John Batista on Arthur Ave., Copiague, on Friday March 30, at approximately 2:15 a.m.
 
Batista was arrested for the following incidents:
 
  • Batista committed a robbery at the Laundry Center, located at 1180 Sunrise Highway, Copiague, on December 11, 2017 at approximately 3:45 p.m.
  • Batista threw a brick through a window and stole cash at the Dunkin Donuts, located at 155 West Sunrise Highway, Copiague, on January 14 at approximately 4:05 a.m.
  • Batista threw a brick through a window and stole cash at Starbucks, located at 1700 Sunrise Highway, Copiague on February 19, at approximately 10:30 p.m.
  • Batista threw a rock through a glass door and stole cash at the Mobil, located at 1201 Sunrise Highway, Copiague on February 22, at approximately 4:30 a.m.
  • Batista threw a brick through a window and stole cash at the Golden Pine Deli, located at 2580 Great Neck Road, Copiague on February 25, at approximately 2:30 a.m.
  • Batista threw a rock through a glass door and stole cash at the Big Town Cleaners, located at 1636 Great Neck Road, West Babylon on March 24 at approximately 2 a.m.
  • Batista threw a brick through a window and stole cash at the Dapper Smoke Shop, located at 411 40th St., Lindenhurst on March 27 at approximately 1:40 a.m.
  • Batista threw a brick through a window and stole cash at the U.S. Petroleum gas station, located at 616 Route 110, North Amityville on March 29 at approximately 2:20 a.m.
There were no injuries during these incidents.
 
Batista, 44, of Copiague, was charged with Robbery First Degree, seven counts of Burglary 3rd Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree. Batista is being held at the First Precinct in West Babylon and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on March 31.  
 
A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
