Legislator Martinez recognized by the NYS Hispanic Task Force at SOMOS el Futuro Conference

Albany, NY - April 1, 2014 - Legislator Monica R. Martinez was recognized on March 22, 2014 at SOMOS el Futuro conference in Albany; the most important political event of the Hispanic community in New York. 
 
The NYS Assembly/Senate Puerto Rican & Hispanic Task Force is the preeminent organization serving and representing the interest of the Hispanic community. Their bi-annual conference combines policymaking, governmental awareness, scholarship grants, experiential internships and apprenticeships. In addition, the task welcomes cultural performances to create a platform for leaders and participants to engage and address issues pertinent to the Hispanic community. The SOMOS el Futuro Conference serves as a vehicle for communication and cooperation between Hispanic organizations throughout New York State. 
 
This year, The Somos El Futuro Spring Conference focused on current issues that affect our country, state and local communities. Workshops were provided by experts on the economy, health care, immigration, labor, bilingual education, and LGBTQ issues. The panelists provided insight and data, paving the way to much needed improvement within our communities. 
 
“I would like to thank Assemblyman Phil Ramos and Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz, Chairman of the Hispanic/Puerto Rican Task Force for this award. I am honored and humbled,” stated Legislator Martinez. “I commit myself to improving the lives of all minorities and all residents of Suffolk County within my capacity as Legislator,” added Legislator Martinez. “As a Hispanic woman, I have had to work twice as hard for my accomplishments and being recognized for all my efforts, is fulfilling. 
 
Legislator Martinez concluded by stating, “Achieving this level of recognition for initiatives that are so near and dear to my heart makes me remember why I decided to run for office. I am looking forward to what next year’s conference will bring. “
