Wrong-Way Driver Arrested for DWI in Patchogue, Suffolk Police Reports

Patchogue, NY - March 19, 2018 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Connecticut man for driving while intoxicated after he drove the wrong way on Sunrise Highway in Patchogue on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
 
Following multiple 911 calls regarding a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes on Sunrise Highway between exits 47 and 51, Highway Patrol Officer John McCrory responded. In an effort to protect other westbound motorists, Officer McCrory slowed traffic by activating his vehicle’s emergency lights and weaving between the lanes of travel. As the wrong-way driver, Manuel Lucero-Corte, approached Officer McCrory’s vehicle, Lucero-Corte stopped his 2005 Jeep Liberty in the left lane at exit 51 in Patchogue at approximately 5:30 a.m. There were no injuries.
 
Lucero-Corte, 50, of New Haven, CT, was arrested and charged with DWI and Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday, March 18 at First District Court in Central Islip.
