"Air Quality Alert" ...Air quality alert in effect from 11 am to 11 PM EDT Thursday... The New York state department of environmental conservation has issued an air quality health advisory for the following counties... Nassau and Suffolk In effect from 11 am to 11 PM EDT Thursday. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an air quality index value of 100 for the pollutant of ground level ozone . The air quality index, or aqi, was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the aqi value, the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated, the New York state department of health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very Young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. Motorcyclist Critically Injured in St. James Crash, According to SCPD

Officials: Steven A. Perrone was riding on Route 25A when the motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into a guardrail.

SCPD are investigating a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist in St. James.

St. James, NY - March 6, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Fourth Squad detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a motorcyclist in St. James, New York on Monday, March 5, 2018.
 
Steven A. Perrone was operating a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle eastbound on Route 25A, just west of Acorn Road, when the motorcycle left the roadway and crashed into a guardrail at approximately 11:30 p.m. 
 
Perrone, 34, of East Setauket, New York was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is in critical condition.
 
The motorcycle was impounded for a safety check.
 
The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Fourth Squad at 631-854-8452.
