NCPD: Drunk-Driving Freeport Woman Arrested After Driving into Pole with 1-Year-Old in Vehicle

The Nassau County Police Department reports on the arrest of a Freeport woman for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law) that occurred on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at 2:24 AM in Oceanside.
 
According to Police, defendant Stephanie Almonte, 34, of 121 Glenada Court was operating a black 2014 Toyota Camry with a one-year-old child traveling eastbound on Brower Avenue when she struck a pole near the intersection of Chance Drive. Officers and Police Paramedics arrived at scene and attempted to take the one-year-child to assess if he needed medical care but defendant Stephanie Almonte refused to relinquish the child and became irate. 
 
Officers were eventually able to take possession of the child and transported him to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment. Officers then removed defendant Stephanie Almonte from the vehicle and placed her under arrest. Defendant Stephanie Almonte was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
 
Defendant Stephanie Almonte is charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated, two counts of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Vehicle, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Contempt 1st degree, Criminal Contempt 2nd degree, Aggravated Family Offense, Obstructing Government Administration 2nd degree, 6 counts of Harassment 2nd Degree and Operation of a Motor Vehicle by an Unlicensed Driver. 
 
She will be arraigned when medically practical.
