Hauppauge, NY - February 14, 2017 - For the 33rd year in a row the Government Financial Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the Suffolk County Comptroller's Office. According to the GFOA, the award is given to state and local governments that "go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure."

"As Suffolk County Comptroller, I am once again proud to accept this prestigious award on behalf of Suffolk County and its residents" said Comptroller Kennedy on Friday. Kennedy continued, "As I have said in years prior, this award not only demonstrates the dedication and professionalism of our organizations Accounting Department, it also gives us the credibility we need with Wall Street Bond Rating agencies to borrow at lower interest rates in the future."

The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) is a non-profit organization made up of public finance professionals throughout the United States and Canada. It currently has 18,000 members at the federal, state, and local levels.
