Duck Donuts, known for serving Warm, Delicious and Made To Order!® donuts, announced the grand opening of its first franchise location in Nassau County, and sixth in New York state, is set for Saturday, Jan. 22, at 9 a.m.* Owned by Omar Athar and Sana Rafique, the store is located at 2425 Jericho Turnpike in Garden City Park in City Park Plaza.

Owners Omar Athar and Sana Rafique grew up in the Garden City Park area and lived in Nassau County for more than 20 years. Today, they live in Suffolk County with their two children, ages three and eight months, where Rafique is a human resource professional and Athar is an Auditor. The couple discovered Duck Donuts during the early days of the pandemic, when they were stuck at home and looking for something fun to do with their toddler.

“In 2020, we drove 50 minutes to visit the Hauppauge Duck Donuts location,” recalls Rafique. “Since there was no indoor seating allowed at the time, we devoured half a dozen warm, soft cake donuts using the trunk of our car as a table! We were hooked from the first bite and spent the whole drive home talking about how we could help bring a location closer to us. Omar reached out about opening this location the very next day!”

“Our go-to donuts are still Peanut Butter Paradise, classic Cinnamon Sugar, and French Toast,” Athar added. “Our store is opening just in time for our neighbors to try these combinations and find their own favorites as we kick off the new year. We are so excited to bring Duck Donuts to Nassau County!”

The 1,300-square-foot retail store reflects the franchise’s iconic beach theme and family-friendly atmosphere. In addition to donuts, the Garden City Park location serves Duck Donuts’ signature coffee blends—Riptide Roast, Light House Blend, and Sunset Pier Decaf—espresso, donut breakfast sandwiches, donut sundaes, new menu items including frozen beverages and milkshakes, select retail items, and more.

The store offers indoor seating, subject to COVID-19 protocols, and will offer online ordering and curbside pickup via the Duck Donuts Rewards app and website in the future.

Duck Donuts specializes in warm, delicious and made-to-order donuts. Upon entering the store, customers are welcomed with the aroma of warm, light vanilla cake donuts. Customers can create their own donut combination by choosing from a variety of coatings, toppings, and drizzles, including traditional favorites such as chocolate icing with sprinkles and more adventurous creations such as maple icing with bacon. The family-friendly stores offer a viewing area where children and adults alike can watch their donuts being made.

As part of the Quack Gives Back program, 5% of opening weekend’s sales will go to Cohens Children’s Hospital. Quack Gives Back promotes partnering with community groups to raise awareness and funds for their causes.

Donuts at this location will be made fresh to order seven days a week: Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
