On Wednesday, January 10, 2024, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol D. Toulon, Jr. honored the latest round of Sheriff’s Office interns at a graduation ceremony at the Yaphank Correctional Facility.

This past fall, 8 interns participated in the coveted 13-week program, designed to give college-aged students hands-on experience of the different units and career paths in the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office. Participants toured the Correctional Facilities, Warrant Squad, Domestic Violence Bureau and Marine Bureau, while learning firsthand from officers about their daily experiences.

They also had the opportunity to participate in Active Threat Scenarios and take a ride along with a Deputy Sheriff to gain knowledge of patrol procedures and enforcement of traffic laws.

These experiences allow young adults to work alongside officers in each area to give them a unique experience to help them to make informed choices about a career in law enforcement.
