Oceanside Alert: Elderly Victim Swindled in $26,000 Phone Scam, Nassau County Police Seek Tips

The Fourth Squad reports the details of a Grand Larceny/Elder Scam that occurred on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 12:45 pm in Oceanside.
 
According to Detectives, a 74-year-old female victim received a phone call from an unknown male claiming her son had been arrested. The male subject told the victim she would have to provide money for her son’s release. The victim was told to retrieve $26,000 and a courier would be sent to her residence to pick it up.
 
A short time later, two unknown males arrived at the victim’s residence and took the money and left the scene. The victim later realized it was a scam and contacted police. The investigation is ongoing.
 
The Nassau County Police Department urges the community to be on alert and to remind vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors about potential scams or frauds.
