Australia's brash Sydney has taken its place as one of the most exciting cities in the world. And although it's a long and excruciating flight to get there, it's certainly worth the trip.

Sydney offers a myriad of experiences that's bound to satisfy any taste in travel. For those interested in scenery, the view of its signature Opera House from a harbor cruise boat is one of the most memorable sights in the world. For those interested in cultural activities, a concert in the Opera House will fill that bill as well, along with a long list of art, history and science museums to choose from. Those looking for adventure can take the Harbour Bridge Climb, an urban escapade that equals most you can find in the wild. And those interested in nature can see koalas and kangaroos close up and personal at the Taronga Zoo, without having to go to the Outback. But if another kind of wildlife is your craving, the clubs and pubs at The Rocks district, will fill that need nicely. Then, as a change of pace, you can enjoy some peace and quiet at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

As one of the world's favorite cities for tourists, Sydney also offers a wide range of hotel to pick from. My personal choice is the Shangri-La, right in the midst of The Rocks district, and just a short walk from the harbor. Gourmets will find much to choose from in Sydney as well, but the Heritage Belgian Restaurant, where you can get a huge bucket of mussels topped off by a hearty Belgian brew, is hard to beat.
