October is a great month to get outdoors and enjoy the fall weather, and it's also a great month to support a worthy cause by participating in a fundraising walk. Click on the links below to learn more about these important local fundraising events, then grab your sneakers and take steps to help these organizations raise much-needed funds. 

 

MMRF Walk/Run for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation

Saturday, October 7

Event Site Opens: 8 a.m., Program Begins: 8:20 a.m., Walk/Run: 9 – 10:15 a.m.

Pier 84 - Hudson River Park

 

For 25 years, the MMRF has been the leading cancer research organization focused on multiple myeloma, the second most common blood cancer. Funds raised through past events have enabled the MMRF to invest over $500M for research, bring 15+ FDA-approved drugs to market, and triple patient survival.


 

Making Strides for Breast Cancer

Sunday, October 15

The American Cancer Society Making Strides movement raises lifesaving funds that support breast cancer patients, survivors, thrivers, and caregivers.

 

COPE Walk 2023 for the COPE Foundation 

Sunday, October 22

10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Long Beach Boardwalk at Laurelton Boulevard

 

The COPE Foundation is a non-profit organization that provides free grief support resources, services, and workshops to children, adults, and families on Long Island. The walk will also feature a memory board where all are welcome to place a photo of their loved ones they walk in honor of. Email adam@copefoundation.org for more information or register online. Event sponsorship opportunities are still available. 

 

2023 Walk to End Alzheimer's

Sunday, October 22

Check-in at 9 a.m, Ceremony at 10 a.m., Walk at 10:30 a.m.

Belmont Lake State Park, North Babylon

 

All funds raised through Walk to End Alzheimer's further the care, support, and research efforts of the non-profit Alzheimer's Association. Route length is two miles. Contact Tinamarie Hardekopf at 631-315-6486 or thardekopf@alz.org for more information. 

 

JDRF One Walk, Long Island 2023

The JDRF One Walk supports the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation raising money to power more research, enable more advocacy, and fund more support for the 1.45 million Americans living with T1D.


 

AHRC Foundation Walk

Sunday, October 29

10  a.m. - 1 p.m.

1899 Park Blvd, East Meadow, NY

 

The AHRC Foundation provides a financial safety net for the Long Island IDD community to ensure high quality services are available regardless of the fiscal and/or political climate. Register online or contact events@ahrcfoundation.org or call 516-626-1075 Ext. 1139 for more information.

 

Heart and Sole 5K Run/Walk

In addition to the 5K Run/Walk there is a 5K Wheelchair Race, and a 1/4 Mile Fun Run for kids 12 and under

Plainview Old Bethpage Middle School

Proceeds from this race will help support the Deborah Tascone-Kennedy, RN Care Giver Center as well as benefit Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, helping to expand community initiatives, including scholarship funds for local high school students and additional community health education programming.
