Hicks Nurseries

Of course pumpkins are plentiful at Hicks Nurseries in Westbury, but it’s fall festival time and Hicks goes all out to give visitors an exciting family-friendly autumn experience.

Hicks Nurseries is the largest garden center on Long Island and was established in 1853. After exploring its lush grounds and selecting the perfect pumpkin or gourd, head on over to see farm animals including lambs, goats, pigs and ducks. Then take a walk to view the all-new animated story, “Otto’s Pirate Adventure” starring Otto, the famous friendly ghost. Children will love the story which follows Otto and his pirate friends as they explore the importance of friendship and teamwork. The animals and the Otto story can be enjoyed daily, now through October 31, 8 a.m. -6 p.m. Free. 

Pictures & Pizza with Otto

For a more interactive Otto experience, visit on a weekend and take a picture with Otto. He will be available for pictures 10 a.m.-12 p.m. & 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, and Columbus Day through October 27.  

Kids can even join Otto for a pizza party on Friday, October 18 and Friday, October 25 at 4 p.m.  The party ticket price of $19.99 plus tax per child includes pizza, water and juice, an Otto trick-or-treat bag, a jack-be-little pumpkin and the opportunity to take a picture with Otto. At the end of the party, children are invited to take a hayride at 4:45pm. Reservations and payment are required by calling 516-334-0066.

White Post Animal Farm

250 Old Country Road, Melville

White Post Farms is a family-owned and operated vegetable farm and petting zoo. Whether it's feeding the animals, watching a lively animatronics performance or taking a Farmland Express Old Fashioned Train Ride, visitors  have plenty of stuff to do at White Post year-round. But during its Fall Festival, taking place weekends and Columbus Day now through October 27, things get extra busy.

The Fall Festival has become a Long Island tradition. Children can find their ideal pumpkin in the pumpkin patch, watch one of six exciting shows including an exotic bird show and magic show, take a Sing-A-Long Hayride, play in the hay or on a Bounce ‘N Slide and much more.
