Detectives from the Suffolk County SPCA, assisted by Police Officers from the Suffolk County Police Third Precinct, charged a Central Islip man and woman with failing to provide food, water and medical care for their three dogs, as well as leaving their dogs penned outdoors during a heat advisory.

Roy Gross, Chief of the Suffolk SPCA, said that its detectives charged Marthe Thelusma, 45, and Didier Castan, 45, of Central Islip, New York, with multiple misdemeanor charges as a result of their failure to properly care for all three of their dogs, which were found to be emaciated with their ribs showing and had raw open painful wounds both in and on their ears, with two of the dogs having multiple insects embedded in their wounds. The three dogs were taken to a local animal hospital for treatment.

Thelusma and Castan were arrested on September 7, 2023. They are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip, on September 27, 2023.

Chief Gross said that animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County. If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722.
