Long Island, NY - August 2, 2018 - New York State Senator John E. Brooks requests residents of his Senate District 8 to nominate exceptional local individuals and businesses for consideration for two NYS Senate awards: the Commendation Award and Senate Empire Award.
NYS Senate Commendation Awards
The NYS Senate Commendation Awards are bestowed upon exceptional people who have made a lasting contribution to their community. If you know of an individual you would like to nominate for this award, they should meet the following criteria:
- Individuals or families that exemplify the spirit of volunteerism at its best. They devote their personal time, energy, creativity, and expertise to others; they participate in philanthropic efforts, display exceptional generosity, either through direct financial support, or outstanding civic and charitable work; their drive and generosity encourages others to get involved in their community.
- Leaders in the community who enrich the health, social, and educational well-being of their fellow citizens. They demonstrate leadership by chairing committees, working on neighborhood causes, mentoring others, volunteering or simply serving as a role model.
- Their efforts and dedication improve the quality of life in every aspect of their communities.
NYS Senate Empire Awards
The NYS Senate Empire Awards recognize excellence in business in our Senate District. If you know of a business that you would like to nominate for this award, please be sure it meets the following criteria:
- Businesses that are leaders in their industry, and are developing an outstanding, thriving business; using innovative methods or product(s); increasing jobs, economic growth; and making significant community contributions that influence New York State.
- Businesses that encourage other area businesses or have formed partnerships within the community; those that hire veterans; that hire/train New Yorkers with disabilities; those that have created entrepreneurial success; growing and creating increased economic opportunities; a family-owned business that has passed from one generation to another; or an emerging innovative business that has developed an outstanding and successful business product or service.
- Businesses that have created a culture of philanthropy; those that volunteer their time and services and demonstrate exceptional leadership in the community; conduct virtuous ethical practices, green practices, outstanding service, or have contributed significantly to their community’s quality of life.
