Big Chief School and Camp on North Jerusalem Road in East Meadow experienced a fire earlier today causing them to dial 911 and evacuate the whole camp. Firefighters from seven different departments in Nassau responded to the scene to help contain the fire - Bellmore, North Bellmore, Wantagh, Levittown, East Meadow, Merrick, and North Merrick.
All of the 158 children attending the camp were evacuated and moved to St. Raphaels Church for their safety and wellbeing. Thankfully, there were no injuries to both the staff and children and everyone got out safely. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and the damages from the fire are not yet known.
