MINEOLA, NY - July 12, 2011 - In the aftermath of last spring's devastating and tragic weather events in Alabama and Missouri, The Long Island Board of REALTORS, Inc., a not-for-profit trade association representing over 20,000 real estate professionals in Nassau, Suffolk and Queens counties, made a generous $5,000 gift to Island Harvest to help fund ongoing disaster relief efforts for victims in those states.

LIBOR President Liz English said, "For the past 6 years, the Long Island Board of Realtors has been proud to show that 'We are more than Realtors' through various charity affiliations and endeavors. Realtors remain committed to helping those in need." Liz further notes that "we are very proud of our growing association with Island Harvest through our Realtors Against Hunger (RAH) Campaign but more immediately, we are pleased to be working with Island Harvest to get much needed food to fellow Americans whose lives have been devastated by recent tornadoes and flooding."

After violent storms and tornadoes hit southern U.S., more than 270 people were killed and thousands more were lest without homes. The funds donated by LIBOR were used to help offset transportation costs associated with getting food and supplies to these tornado and flood victims in Alabama and Missouri.

Island Harvest contracted with Feeding America, the nation's leading domestic hunger-relief charity, to provide a truckload of produce to each of the affected areas.
