Woman Arrested for Assaulting Elderly Patient with Cognitive Disorder in Searingtown

A Florida woman was arrested for assaulting a 68-year-old man with a cognitive disorder whom she was hired to care for in Searingtown.

Third Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Florida woman for Assault that occurred over a period of time dating back to December 24, 2023 in Searingtown.
 
According to detectives, the male victim, 68, suffers from a cognitive disorder and needed the assistance of a live-in home health aide. The victim hired Radica Barker, 59, to care for him.
 
It was discovered that Barker would often lose her patience with the victim and strike him causing bruising and substantial pain. Barker would take the victim’s cane away, which he physically needed. On multiple occasions Baker forced the victim out of his vehicle and he would have to take a car service home. Radica Barker was arrested without incident.
 
During the investigation, Baker was found to be in possession of blank check belonging to the victim.
 
Defendant Barker is charged with Assault 2nd Degree and two (2) counts of Endangering the Welfare of Incompetent or Disabled Person 1st Degree. Barker was arraigned on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at First District Court in Hempstead.
