Garden City, NY - October 12, 2016 - Adelphi Exhibitions is proud to present Flow of Life: Nagare, by Tamiko Kawata. This dramatic exhibit features an installation of polychromatic pantyhose engulfing the gallery space cascading from the ceiling and gracefully flowing out on the floor. This exhibition, which is open to the public, is located in the Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery until Sunday, November 6, 2016.

Tamiko Kawata uses overlooked indigenous objects from daily life as her media to create installations, sculptures and wall works. Using discarded materials is important to her not only as a commentary on environmental issues but also as a way for her to reflect on her current life. Her choice of materials and interpretation are influenced by the differences that she experienced between life in America and in Japan, where she grew up.

“I create my works through experimenting with materials that reflect my life and my thoughts. Small, unpretentious and valueless things from our daily life often become my primary medium. I look for another language, energy, chaos and harmony, within quiet stillness. I came from Japan in my young adult life, and I feel my works are often intuitive reactions to the American life that I have happily adopted, my art making is a visual journey of my life. Observing our environment is an exciting daily practice and nature’s phenomena…such as water, mist, shadows, wind are strong inspirations to form my works.”
