Huntington, NY - October 4, 2016 - The warning signs of substance abuse and addiction can often be dismissed or go unforeseen by an abuser’s family, friends or loved ones.  To help local residents understand the warning signs and the latest trends in substance abuse, Councilman Mark Cuthbertson will be partnering with the Long Island Council on Alcoholism & Drug Dependence [LICADD] and the Suffolk County Police Department to host a Substance Abuse Seminar on Monday, October 17th.  The event will be held at the Cinema Arts Center, located at 423 Park Avenue in Huntington from 7:00pm to 8:30pm.

“As part of an effort to reduce the devastation caused by heroin and substance abuse in our communities, I will be hosting this important seminar that I hope will raise awareness of this epidemic before another life or family is lost,” stated Councilman Cuthbertson.

The seminar on substance abuse will also discuss helpful ways for preventing addiction and how to start a conversation with a loved one who is struggling against this disease.

In addition to the seminar, the Suffolk County Police Department will hold a “Shed the Meds” medicine disposal event throughout the program where residents can drop off unwanted or un-needed medications for a safe and echo-friendly disposal.

Residents who are interested in attending the October 17th seminar are asked to please RSVP by October 10th by calling Councilman Cuthbertson’s Office at: 631-351-3171 or by sending an email.
