Teen Seriously Injured in Hit-and-Run Crash, Driver Arrested

Suffolk County Police today arrested a Holbrook woman for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash after her vehicle struck a teenager waiting at a bus stop in Holtsville.

Holtsville, NY - December 21, 2016 - Suffolk County Police today arrested a Holbrook woman for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle crash after her vehicle struck a teenager waiting at a bus stop in Holtsville.

Amanda Duffy was driving a 2016 Ford northbound on Morris Avenue at approximately 6:40 a.m. when her vehicle struck Tara Hayes, who was waiting at her school bus stop. Duffy fled the scene but returned approximately an hour later.

Hayes, 16, of Farmingville, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Holtsville Fire Department ambulance for treatment of serious injuries. Duffy, 24, of Holbrook, was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Serious Injury.

Duffy was released on bail and will be arraigned at a later date. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
