After rumored threats on social media that were later found to be unsubstantiated, precautions are being taken with police presence at the school today.

Farmingdale, NY - December 7, 2015 - Second Squad detectives report the details of a suspicious/unusual incident that occurred in Farmingdale on Sunday, 12/06/15 at 7:00 P.M.

According to detectives, school officials at the Howitt Middle School located at 70 Van Cott Ave. reported rumors on social media that two 8th grade students had made threats to harm students on Monday, 12/07/15 and that one of the students was in possession of a handgun.   Subsequent investigation by detectives determined that rumored threats were unsubstantiated and fueled by hearsay through social media.  There will be police presence at the opening of school.
