During Veteran’s Week in November volunteers from PSEG Long Island - including five military veterans - assisted in renovating a Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk house in Bellport for a U.S. veteran.

This home represents the 173rd completed by Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk since 1988.

On November 12th, the all-PSEG Long Island crew began tearing down walls, flooring, ceilings, roofing and siding to prepare for the renovation of the home.

“By noon, the house was stripped down to its skeleton in preparation for a new home to be built for a veteran,” PSEG Long Island said in a press release about the day.

PSEG Long Island sponsored this Habitat for Humanity veteran build event. A spokesperson for the company said that there were about 15 PSEG Long Island workers on that specific job that day volunteering their time.

“Our veterans deserve the utmost respect and deserve any help we can provide to them,” said Kevin McCormack, a line worker and Navy veteran from Mastic who was among the PSEG Long Island employees preparing the home.

In a statement, PSEG Long Island said that it celebrated veterans throughout the week of Veterans Day by improving the homes and facilities of men and women who have served in the U.S. armed forces, including beautifying The Veterans Place in Yaphank. The theme of the week of service was “Vets Helping Vets.”

In all there were seven projects that PSEG Long Island volunteers work on that week.

Brookhaven Town Councilman Michael Loguercio was also on hand that day for the construction project.

"Habitat for Humanity of Suffolk has been a wonderful partner, and this is another great example of that collaboration,” said Loguercio in a statement. “It was humbling to see the large group of hard-working PSEG-Long Island volunteers that came to volunteer their time.”

He said he was looking forward to handing over the keys to a well-deserving Veteran and their family.
