East Northport, NY - December 7, 2016 - What happens when grade and middle school children fundraise to buy yarn? They donate that yarn to senior Knitting and Crochet Guilds across Long Island. You get hundreds of scarves, hats, gloves and incredible blankets that along with 400 brand new coats will be wrapped then donated as holiday gifts to our veterans in need on Long Island.

Volunteers of General Needs will be wrapping 400 new coats and 400 gift boxes with Hats, Scarves & Gloves, and the "You Matter" blankts that were knitted and crocheted by the following groups: Care to Knit, Inc., The Needlers, Stitches of Love, The Knit Chicks, TTN Stitchers, Long Island Crochet Guild, Heavenly Stitchers.

General Needs focuses on helping the needy thousands of homeless Long Island Veterans and their families by providing basic necessities through charitable donations and support. Our mission focuses on basic necessities by providing: NEW Underwear, T-shirts, Socks, Boots, Sneakers, Outerwear, Towels/Washcloths, toiletries, and bedding, something that is missing in the everyday life of our homeless veterans.

General Needs draws from communities on Long Island, who are compassionate and concerned about those who have served our country. We draw no salaries nor take any goods or money collected for personal benefit.
