SCPD Hate Crimes Unit Investigating Menorah Vandalism in Ronkonkoma

Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit detectives are investigating an incident in which a menorah was discovered damaged in Ronkonkoma today.

Update: - December 5th, 2013 - Suffolk County Police today arrested two minors who damaged a menorah in Ronkonkoma on December 2.  As part of the ongoing investigation, Hate Crimes Unit detectives identified the 15-year-old Lake Ronkonkoma teens responsible for breaking a menorah at Raynor County Park.  The teens were charged with Criminal Mischief 4th Degree as Juvenile Delinquents and were released to their parents.  They were issued field appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at Family Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The investigation is continuing.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Ronkonkoma, NY - December 2nd, 2013 - Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit detectives are investigating an incident in which a menorah was discovered damaged in Ronkonkoma today.
 
A member from the Hate Crimes Unit discovered damage to the menorah at Raynor County Park located at Ronkonkoma Avenue at approximately 5:30 p.m. Two of the arms supporting the lights were removed and bulbs were broken off the top of the menorah which is displayed by the Ronkonkoma Chamber of Commerce.
 
The investigation is ongoing.   Hate Crimes Unit detectives ask anyone with information regarding the damage to the menorah to call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-220-TIPS.   All calls will remain confidential.
