Nassau County, NY - November 22nd, 2013 - Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano today announced that the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, in coordination with Service by Air, a Woodbury based air freight company, have sent much needed relief supplies to the typhoon ravaged Philippine nation.

County Executive Mangano stated, “We are pleased to lend assistance to the rescue response for the many thousands of people affected by the recent typhoon. With so many people throughout our nation helping Long Island cope with the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy, it is only fitting that we lend a hand to the people of the Philippines as they struggle to recover from this horrible disaster.”

Supplies are being delivered to the devastated Philippines include vital medical supplies such as medicines, exam gloves, cough suppressants, potassium pills, and eye drops. The estimated value of these medical supplies which were donated by Catholic Medical Mission Board is $1.5 million. Nassau County’s Office of Emergency Management is also contributing 15 pallets of Meals Ready to Eat (MRE’s) with soon-to-expire useable dates. This shipment will feed over 6,000 people.

Some of the supplies will be shipped via ocean freight. The more urgently needed supplies will be sent by Service by Air. All emergency supplies will be on the way to the typhoon victims by the end of this week.
