Middle Island, NY - November 14, 2017 - On Saturday, November 11th, Suffolk County Legislator Sarah Anker joined the Longwood Alliance, the Middle Island Civic Association, local fire department, scout troops, and members of the Longwood community at Bartlett Pond Park for a Veterans Day commemoration ceremony. On Veterans Day, we honor the men and women who have fought for our freedom and the active duty military personnel who continue to fight for us at home and overseas. The event included recognition of veterans and active military in attendance, a flag ceremony, poetry reading, and wreath placement at the different veteran monuments.

“The Longwood community has done a wonderful job maintaining Bartlett Pond Park, which includes various monuments to recognize our veterans, military personnel, rescue animals, and military families. I am proud to be a part of a community that goes above and beyond to honor our veterans,” said Legislator Anker.

The commemoration ceremony was sponsored by the Middle Island Civic Association, the Longwood Alliance, and Boy Scout Troop 433. For more information about upcoming events in Middle Island, please visit www.middleislandcivic.com.
