NCPD Announces Arrest Made in Connection with October Stabbing Death of Freeport Man

The Homicide Squad reports that an arrest has been made in connection with a Homicide that originally occurred on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 5:35 AM in Hempstead.
 
According to Detectives, Hempstead Police responded to 911 call at 45 Jackson Avenue for a male bleeding in the stairwell. Upon arrival officers observed Marlon Rivas-Aguilar, 53 of Freeport, bleeding and unresponsive. Rivas-Aguilar suffered apparent puncture wounds from an unknown subject and was pronounced at scene by medical personnel.
 
The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of Melbis Hernandez, 36, of Hempstead (homeless) for the above incident. He is charged with Murder 2nd degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree. He will be arraigned on November 6, 2023 at First District Court in Hempstead.
