Flushing, NY - November 4, 2015 - On Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. there will be a free educational networking event for parents/caretakers of children with autism. The meet-and-greet will be held at Flushing Town Hall Theater in Queens, NY and is sponsored by FoHi Wellness. There will be a cocktail hour, gift bags and raffle prizes, and more.
The evening’s guest speaker will be Frank Campagna (“Autism Daddy”) whose talk will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Throughout the night, there will be live music performed by Yagull, a New York-based post-rock chamber project featuring composer/guitarist Sasha Markovic and pianist/composer Kana Kamitsubo, both founders of Hug Music in Forest Hills, NY.
It is the goal of FoHi Wellness to host this event on a yearly basis; a safe space where individuals can meet other families. “We want to create an evening that will be fun and educational at the same time, so parents can feel like they had a nice night out but left with some valuable information about autism, and met some new friends along the way,” says Fadia Mohama, co-founder, with Maggie Rodriguez Salas, of FoHi Wellness. “We encourage parents to meet each other and create a safe and positive circle of friends that support, help, and guide each other.” She adds: “The best information and guidance I've gotten has been from the parents I meet at my son's school, who have become close friends.”
Says Rodriguez Salas: “Fadia and I are both very excited for this event since it’s dear to our hearts. We can both relate to what that these families go through; we both have family members with special needs.” According to Salas, the idea of FoHi Wellness stemmed from the desire to raise awareness of one’s well-being regardless of the obstacles one has to face. “We also wanted to help promote small businesses in the vibrant borough of Queens through special needs awareness events.”
