Police Investigating Death of Man Killed in Melville Two-Vehicle Crash

A 28-year-old man was driving on Walt Whitman Road when his vehicle collided with a second vehicle, officials say.

Melville, NY - November 2, 2018 - Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a man in Melville on Thursday November 1.
 
A 28-year-old man was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy southbound on Walt Whitman Road when his vehicle collided with a 2016 Mercedes Benz Sprinter, which was westbound on Express Drive North, at approximately 5:15 a.m.
 
The driver of the Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the Mercedes, Daniel Batista, 37, of Selden, and his three passengers were transported by Melville Rescue to Plainview Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
 
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
