The original story is below.

Suffolk Police have confirmed that Marine Bureau officers are looking for the operator of a boat that was located on Smith Point Beach, approximately two miles west of Moriches Inlet, at approximately 8:15pm on Sunday, October 30.

“It is under investigation if the operator of the vessel is in the water,” police said in a statement to LongIsland.com.

The United States Coast Guard and local fire departments are also on scene.

A Facebook post on a Long Island Fishing group said that the daughter of the boater called 911.

“Prayers to the family of the missing boater outside of Moriches,” the post read. “Boat washed up on smith's point power on keys in the ignition in the run position electronics powered on.   Daughter later called 911 stating father hadn't returned home from fishing. Be safe out there folks.”

Conditions on the water on Sunday were reportedly not good.

Suffolk Police did not identify who called 911 about the boat but said it was someone who found the boat on the beach who called it in to police. Police also said at this time they would not disclose who they think was operating the boat at the time.

This is a developing story and we will update as more information becomes available.
