A skate park in Montauk reopened after an extensive renovation, creating what some consider to be a world-class park on the East End of Long Island. Named for Lars Simenson, a local resident, surfer and skateboarder who died in a tragic accident 15 years ago, the skate park was originally an inground swimming pool-style bowl.

The $1.4 million renovation expanded and improved on the original design. A grand opening for the Lars Simenson Montauk Skate Park was held in the beginning of September.

The park is located on South Essex Street and includes an inground swimming pool style feature, multiple inground concrete ramps and grinding rails, and a basketball court.
