Business and industry partners are important to career and technical education programs because they provide advice, advocacy tools, and knowledge about work readiness and an understanding of employment and career options.

Riverhead, NY - September 16, 2016 - Hair Extension Specialist Barbara Lhotan from Academy Pro Hair, Inc., and Paul Mitchell Metro demonstrated how to apply hair extensions using micro-beads to students enrolled in the Cosmetology Program at the Academy at Ward Technical Center in Riverhead.

The micro-bead system has become very popular because there’s no glue, no heat, no tape, and no sewing. It’s virtually damage-free and the durability is about three to four months.

Academy Pro Hair, Inc. offers courses to teach and certify students to be licensed stylists in applying, removing, maintaining, cutting, styling, and marketing hair extensions. The company offers Eastern Suffolk BOCES and Academy students the opportunity to become certified extension specialists at a discounted price.

Cosmetology Teacher Carolyn McKillop said, “The students were both excited and eager to learn hair extension techniques from Barbara and appreciated her advice about employment opportunities. They were aptly impressed that Academy Pro has had work published in Milady, a premier education resource in cosmetology.”
