Update: Jimmy Buffett's official website has revealed that he passed away at his home in Sag Harbor on Long Island on September 1, 2023. Buffet, 76, had been fighting Merkel Cell Skin Cancer for four years.

Jimmy Buffett, the singer who popularized just taking it easy on the beach and drinking Margs, died. He was 76-years-old.

“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs,” a statement posted to his website and social media pages said. “He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”

No cause of death has been revealed.

Parrotheads - as fans of Buffett are called - would flock to Jones Beach every summer to camp out for hours waiting for his concert in a festival atmosphere. Buffett last played at the beach last August during his 75th birthday tour.

“Buffett’s appearance at the outdoor Wantagh venue isn’t just a concert, but rather a daylong event,” according to a write-up about Buffett on the Jones Beach website. “Rabid Buffett fans, affectionately known as Parrot Heads, arrive in the parking lot early in the morning on the day of the show to put on a massive tropical-themed tailgate party that includes tribute bands, volleyball matches in the sand, fake palm trees, mobile tiki bars and full-scale barbecues with everyone wearing beachy attire.”

Buffett also kept a place in Sag Harbor on Long Island. This past July, Buffett appeared on local radio station WLNG to debut his new song “My Gummy Just Kicked In.”
