Mastic Beach, NY - September 2, 2016 - The William Floyd High School varsity football team has been recently fitted with new five-star helmets in an effort to provide the best defense against concussions and head injuries. Research has shown that five-star helmets provide the best head protection and reduces the risk of a player sustaining a concussion.

“While no helmet is concussion proof, these helmets, along with the proper coaching techniques and fair play, will provide the best protection,” said Paul Longo, head coach of the Colonials.

The district purchased 80 new Riddell Speedflex helmets for the players; one, two and three star-rated helmets have been removed from use. The varsity Colonials kick off their season with an away game at the Connetquot Thunderbirds on Friday, September 9.
