Hauppauge, NY - August 11, 2015 - A three-foot long alligator and a approximately five-and-one-half-foot diamondback rattlesnake were seized today by officers from the Suffolk County SPCA and NYS DEC Police.

Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk SPCA said that the illegal reptiles were taken after the SPCA received a tip and conducted an investigation.  The animals appeared to be in good health. Gross said that the investigation is continuing and wouldn't speculate whether charges would be filed.

These are very dangerous, wild animals, which do not belong in a home as pets, Gross said.

A joint investigation is underway by Investigators from the Suffolk County SPCA and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Police.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
