AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 11 PM EDT THIS EVENING The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for the following counties... Richmond...Kings...Queens...New York...Bronx...Westchester... Rockland...Nassau...and Suffolk. from 11 AM this morning to 11 PM EDT this evening. Air quality levels in outdoor air are predicted to be greater than an Air Quality Index value of 100 for the pollutant of Ground Level Ozone . The Air Quality Index...or AQI...was created as an easy way to correlate levels of different pollutants to one scale. The higher the AQI value...the greater the health concern. When pollution levels are elevated...the New York State Department of Health recommends that individuals consider limiting strenuous outdoor physical activity to reduce the risk of adverse health effects. People who may be especially sensitive to the effects of elevated levels of pollutants include the very young...and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease. Those with symptoms should consider consulting their personal physician. A toll free air quality hotline has been established so New York residents can stay informed on the air quality situation. Trained Staff to Help Sandy Victims with Applications for Federal Housing and Business Recovery Aid.

Albany, NY - May 2, 2013 - Governor Andrew M. Cuomo is continuing to deploy representatives of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to locations in Nassau County over the next several days to help homeowners and business owners affected by Superstorm Sandy apply for recovery aid that was approved by the federal government last week.

 

The Department’s representatives will be available to meet with residents inside the agency's Mobile Command Center, which will be stationed at these locations:

 

Friday, May 3: Nassau County
Freeport Recreation Center
130 E. Merrick Road 
Freeport, New York
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

 

Saturday, May 4: Nassau County
Cedar Creek Park 
Merrick, New York
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

 

Monday, May 6: Nassau County
Toys R Us Parking Lot
5520 Sunrise Highway 
Massapequa, New York
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

 

DFS representatives will also be available to assist with insurance-related issues stemming from damage caused by Sandy. Additional locations will be announced in the future.
