Four Beaches Closed to Bathing

After finding bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria four beaches are now closed to bathing.

Suffolk County, NY - August 8, 2016 - Lake Ronkonkoma Beach, in the town of Islip, Tanner Park Beach in Copiague, Benjamin Beach in Bayshore and Peconic Dunes County Park (Lake) in Southold, are closed to bathing due to the finding of bacterial levels in excess of acceptable criteria.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
