Mineola, NY - August 7, 2018 - Nassau County Executive Laura Curran joined members of UFCW Local 1500 for their annual scholarship breakfast at the Union Hall in Westbury.
 
With over 20,000 members, Local 1500 is one of the largest locals in the UFCW and the largest of New York State. This union represents men and women in Queens, Staten Island, Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess Counties. The members work for companies that have a long history in NY as well: Companies such as Fairway, King Kullen, D'Agostinos, Stop & Shop (Edward's), Gristede's, and Shop Rite have been serving New Yorkers for many years. 
 
UFCW Local 1500 awards thousands of dollars in scholarships each year to active members, and members' dependents. Recipients must be an Active Member in College or High School, or an an Active Members' Dependent (Only in High School). There are 11 scholarship recipients.
