UPDATE: Four Killed, Two Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash Caught on Fire on July 4th

Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed four people and injured two others last night in Yaphank.

Gustave Geyer, 25, of Ridge, was pronounced dead at the scene. The names of the occupants of the Nissan are being withheld pending positive identification, however, detectives believe all five occupants are related.

Update - July 6, 2016 - The driver of the 2014 Nissan Altima involved in the two-vehicle crash in front of 275 Yaphank-Middle Island Road in Yaphank on July 4 has been identified as Chandan Gavai, 38, of Middle Island.

Gavai’s father, Kamalnayan Gavai, 74, and mother, Archana Gavai, 60, were also killed in the crash. Kamalnayan and Archana Gavai are residents of India and were visiting the United States.

Chandan Gavai’s wife, Manisha Surwade, 32, remains in critical condition at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center.

The 11-month-old baby injured in the crash is the son of Manisha and Chandan and remains hospitalized at Stony Brook University Hospital.

Yaphank, NY - July 5, 2016 - Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad detectives are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed four people and injured two others last night in Yaphank.

A 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling southbound on Yaphank-Middle Island Road when the driver, Gustave Geyer, lost control of the vehicle and struck a northbound 2014 Nissan Altima in front of 275 Yaphank-Middle Island Road at approximately 10:45 p.m. Both vehicles caught fire following the collision.

Geyer, 25, of Ridge, who was alone in his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the Nissan was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Two passengers in the Nissan, a man and a woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. 

A female passenger in the Nissan was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue with life-threatening burns and head injuries. An 11-month-old boy in the Nissan was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The names of the occupants of the Nissan are being withheld pending positive identification, however, detectives believe all five occupants are related.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check. Detectives are asking anyone with information on this crash to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
